Mat Sabu slams the brakes on talk of Amanah rep taking over as Negri MB

SEREMBAN: Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu has ruled out the possibility of its sole assemblyman in Negri Sembilan taking over the mentri besar post.

The Agriculture and Food Security Minister said the party was consistent in its stand to continue supporting PKR's Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun as Mentri Besar.

"The answer is no.

"The MB of Negri Sembilan is Aminuddin and he shall remain so," he said in a Facebook post on Friday (May 8).

He was responding to talk that Klawang assemblyman Datuk Bakri Sawir was being considered to replace Aminuddin.

Bakri, who is into his second term, was a member of the state exco during his first term.

PKR has five assemblymen in the state and Aminuddin is the only Muslim man among them.

Mohamad said that Amanah had always been against forming a backdoor government, and would not change its stand.

"There is nothing more to say on this. Full stop," he said.

Pakatan Harapan won 17 seats in the 2023 state election followed by Barisan Nasional (14) and Perikatan Nasional (five).

On April 27, the 14 Barisan assemblymen withdrew support for Aminuddin, claiming that he had failed to manage the royal crisis in the state.

The 14, who were all from Umno, went on to say they had the support of the five Perikatan representatives and had a simple majority to form the state government.

However, on Tuesday (May 5), both the Umno and Pakatan leadership unanimously agreed to maintain the unity government framework in the state.

Negri Sembilan Umno said that while it would heed the leadership's advice to continue supporting the state unity government, it stood by its earlier declaration of having lost confidence in Aminuddin's leadership.
