PKR: Negri crisis must not affect public service, burden the people

SEREMBAN: The prolonged constitutional and adat crisis in Negri Sembilan must be resolved quickly to prevent the state administration and public service from being affected, says state PKR.

The party said the leadership uncertainty and disrupted decision-making processes risked causing confusion among civil servants, investors, local authorities and the public.

“The people cannot be made to bear the consequences of governance failure.

“The crisis must not be allowed to paralyse the administration, burden the people or adversely affect state economic activities,” it said in a statement posted on the Facebook page of state PKR chief and former mentri besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

The statement was issued following a meeting of the state PKR leadership on Tuesday night.

The party said the developments involved not only constitutional matters and the royal institution, but also raised concerns over the continuity of the administration, economic stability and the welfare of the people.

It said the absence of new state executive council appointments could delay matters requiring consideration and approval by the state authorities.

“Investments, development, land approvals and transfers, as well as project implementation, could potentially be affected.

“This deadlock could undermine investor confidence, disrupt operations for landowners and businesses, and ultimately threaten job opportunities and the people’s income,” it said.

The party said the welfare of the people must take precedence over political interests or personal considerations.

It also called for the appointments of local councillors and village development and security committee members to be made as soon as possible, describing them as important links between the state government and the people at the grassroots level.

The state PKR also expressed disappointment over Mentri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim’s actions and stance, which it said appeared to contradict a decree by the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.

“The state PKR will always pledge our absolute loyalty and support to Tuanku Muhriz and respect the position and role of the royal institution within the framework of the Constitution and the laws of Negri Sembilan,” it said.

The party urged political leaders to exercise wisdom, avoid statements that could escalate tensions and allow constitutional and legal processes to resolve the crisis.

On Tuesday, Tuanku Muhriz granted an audience to Ismail, with the meeting believed to have focused on efforts to resolve the state’s ongoing customary and constitutional crisis.

However, no statement was issued following the three-hour meeting.
