KULAI: International household retailer Harvey Norman has reached a new milestone with the opening of its 40th store in the country, and its first in Kulai.

Its managing director for Singapore and Malaysia Bernice Kwok said Kulai's rapid development makes the district the perfect location for the company's new outlet.

"The quick industrialisation of Kulai with the opening of data centres and the high level of investment coming in makes the district an ideal location.

"There are also more and more people coming here to make Kulai their home in search of a better quality of life," she told the media at the opening of the new store at IOI Mall Kulai here on Thursday (April 30).

Kwok said the store is the fifth in Johor, marking the brand’s growing presence in the southern state.

"We have three stores in Johor Baru and one in Batu Pahat, making this the fifth in the state.

"Johor is growing, and we plan to open more stores in the state.

"We are in talks for further expansion and have identified potential areas, but it is still in the early stages," she added.

Also present at the launch were Harvey Norman Malaysia chief operating officer Jonathan Toh, Harvey Norman Malaysia lead general manager Eddy Ng, IOI Properties Group chief operating officer (Properties Investment) Chris Chong, IOI Properties Group head of leasing Aileen Goh, IOI Mall Kulai senior complex manager Raymond Koo, and a Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu) councillor Nurul Nadia Ab Azis, representing Johor housing and local government committee chairman Mohd Jafni Md Shukor.

In conjunction with the store’s grand opening sale until May 20, visitors will be treated to a wide array of deals and activities from now until Sunday (May 3) such as Happy Hour Deals and Spend RM300 to stand a chance to win prizes worth over RM20,000 and more.

There will also be a special appearance by MediaCorp artist Shaun Chen from noon to 1pm on Friday (May 1).
