MACC to continue questioning Rafizi’s former aide for a third day

PETALING JAYA: A former aide of ex-economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli will continue to give his statement today to graft busters over a case involving a semiconductor project worth about RM1.1bil.

According to sources, James Chai, whose full name is Chai Jin Shern, was present at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya for a second day yesterday to continue providing information into the probe.

“The witness arrived at the MACC headquarters at about 10am for the second day of recording of his statement,” a source said.

Senior director of the Investigations Division Datuk Mohd Hafaz Nazar, when contacted, confirmed the matter, saying the witness was released at 6.45pm and is expected to return for a third day of questioning at 10am today.

On April 1, the MACC said in a statement that Chai had been identified as an individual required to assist in the investigation. The questioning only started this week after Chai returned from overseas.

On Feb 12, the MACC received a report on alleged misappropriation involving a RM1.1bil investment linked to a former senior minister.

The Star previously reported that the MACC had recorded statements from 17 witnesses, including officers from the Economy Ministry and related agencies such as the Malaysian Investment Development Authority.
