Malaysia, China deepen bilateral ties through language, cultural camp


PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia and China continue to strengthen bilateral ties in education and culture through the inaugural China-Malaysia Youth Language and Cultural Interaction Camp 2026.

The programme, jointly organised by the Higher Education Ministry, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), brings together 59 lecturers and students of Malay language studies from 13 universities in China for a camp running from today until April 30.

Deputy Higher Education Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim said the programme could set a new benchmark in strengthening Malaysia-China bilateral ties through higher education cooperation.

"These students will be here in Malaysia for four days to interact and deepen their understanding of the culture and experiences related to the Malay language they have learnt (in China)," he told reporters after officiating the China-Malaysia Youth Language and Culture Interaction Camp 2026 here Tuesday (April 27).

Adam Adli said the programme was also held to ensure that initiatives aimed at enhancing interaction and the development of the Malay language abroad are carried out in a proper manner.

Throughout the four-day programme, participants will take part in various activities, including language interaction sessions, knowledge discourses, academic visits and cultural activities jointly designed with strategic partners.

The organisation of the programme also reflects the the ministry's continued commitment to expanding international cooperation networks and strengthening Malaysia's position as a globally competitive higher education hub. - Bernama
