KANGAR: The Perlis Education Department is fully cooperating with the police on a case involving a Year Six pupil who was allegedly injured after her chair was pulled away by a classmate as she was sitting on it.
In a statement on the incident in February, the department said it would not compromise on bullying and that anyone found guilty of such misconduct should face appropriate action.
"JPN Perlis takes this incident seriously at a school that resulted in injuries to a pupil," it said in a statement on Friday (June 12), adding that the school concerned had been instructed to ensure the best possible assistance is provided to the pupil, whose welfare and well-being must be given priority.
It was reported earlier on Friday that the 12-year-old girl had been unable to attend school for nearly four months after allegedly sustaining injuries that have limited her mobility in the incident on Feb 11.
Her mother, Norasikin Hasin, 32, alleged that her eldest child of two siblings suffered a lower back soft tissue injury and was later diagnosed with a functional disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following the incident.
Padang Besar OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Shokri Abdullah confirmed that police had received a report regarding the incident, which had been referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's Office and investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt. - Bernama
