SEREMBAN: The police will summon Perikatan Nasional election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for questioning in relation to a ceramah he delivered during the ongoing campaign for the Negri Sembilan state election.
Negri Sembilan state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said to date, several witnesses have been called in to have their statements recorded in relation to the case.
"Investigations are ongoing. We have already recorded statements from several individuals and expect to call in the PAS leader in the near future to complete our probe," he added.
He said police have received two police reports related to the case and an investigation paper has been opened.
The case is being investigated under Section 505B of the Penal Code for making statements conducive to public mischief and under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network services.
The first report was lodged by a 40-year-old man in Jempol last Friday and the second by a 45-year-old man at the Senawang station on Sunday (July 26).
DCP Alzafny said it could not be immediately established how many reports have been lodged against the Kedah Mentri Besar.
In a separate case, he said the police will call an Umno leader who had allegedly claimed the Negri Sembilan palace was controlled by a political party.
As of Monday (July 27), police had received 11 reports related to the case.
"The Rembau Umno information chief will also be called in soon to assist in the investigation.
"We have in the meantime recorded statements from several witnesses," he said.
DCP Alzafny said police will seek the assistance of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to probe the matter.
The police, he said, have opened an investigation paper under Section 4A(1) of the Election Offences Act 1954 and Section 505B of the Penal Code.
The case is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988.
On Monday (July 27), the Negri Sembilan palace denied any involvement with political parties contesting the Aug 1 state polls.
In a statement, Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Azizi Mohamad Ali advised candidates to refrain from dragging the monarchy into their election campaigns and speeches.
He emphasised that the royal institution always upholds the principle of neutrality and was not involved with any party or political activity.
The royal institution, he said, serves as an umbrella of unity for the people, playing a role in maintaining the harmony, stability, and well-being of the nation.
