ALOR SETAR: PAS could emulate Terengganu state government's clean sweep in the last state election by winning all 36 state seats in Kedah and wiping out the remaining opposition representation held by DAP and PKR, says Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor (pic).
The Kedah Mentri Besar said it was not impossible for PAS and Perikatan Nasional to repeat Terengganu's 32-0 victory in the next state election, citing what he described as shifting political sentiments and weaknesses within the ruling coalition.
"We want to make it like Terengganu – 32-0. It is not impossible," he told party members in his speech during the launch of Kedah PAS election machinery programme on Friday (June 12).
In the last state election in August 2023, Perikatan comprising PAS and Bersatu won all 32 state seats in Terengganu.
The Islamist party also won all eight parliamentary seats in the state during the 15th General Election (GE15) in November 2022.
Sanusi, who is the PAS election director, said the party was aiming to wrest the two PKR-held seats of Sidam and Bakar Arang, while also ensuring DAP loses its sole seat in Kota Darul Aman.
Sanusi said PAS was prepared to contest all 36 seats, regardless of whether its current allies remain together.
"We now have 33 seats. Whether they (Bersatu) are with us or not, we will contest all the seats," he said.
Sanusi urged party members to remain focused despite uncertainty in the national political landscape, saying PAS must continue strengthening its machinery ahead of the next general and state elections.
He said Kedah still had more than a year before the expected parliamentary polls, which he predicted would only be held towards the end of 2027.
