KOTA KINABALU: A video showing a student allegedly getting high on "piu-piu" or mushroom vape is making the rounds in Sandakan, prompting assemblyman Alex Thien to call for thorough investigations to be conducted.
The Tanjong Papat representative said the video showing such actions, though unclear whether it really involved students in Sandakan, was worrying and demanded for a probe to be conducted immediately.
“From information and a video I received, we believe the incident happened at the Batu Sapi Bus Terminal, but we need to get a clearer picture on the actual situation,” he said in a statement.
Following the video, Thien lodged a report with the Sandakan police, urging for a probe to be conducted and actions taken to prevent such cases.
He also went to the bus station to speak with bus drivers and locals, asking if they were aware of such activities.
While no one confirmed his suspicions, the bus operators there told him that the station is usually a meeting point for students and children.
“Local authorities should step up their operations and patrols at hotspots while stricter actions must be taken to educate the public on the dangers of these drugs,” he said.
