THE Selangor government has identified 688 temples operating without approval, Makkal Osai reported.

A total of 433 of these are located on government land, while 255 are on privately owned land, state exco member V. Papparaidu was reported to have said.

There are 285 approved temples operating in Selangor, he added.

The Banting assemblyman revealed this when answering a question raised by Kota Kemuning assemblyman S. Preakas during the Selangor state assembly regarding allocations for Hindu houses of worship.

Papparaidu said that the situation presented an opportunity to review the possibility of relocating such temples to proper sites.

Papparaidu, who co-chairs the Special Committee on Non-Islamic Places of Worship in Selangor, added the state government is working to resolve the matter amicably in line with the National Land Code.
