Agriculture sector to get RM31.9mil boost for strategic projects, says Johor exco chairman

JOHOR BARU: Johor’s agriculture sector is set to receive a further boost following the approval of an additional RM31.9mil allocation for this year under the Programme for Empowering the National Agri-Food Sector (PPAN).

State Agriculture, Agro-based Industry and Rural Committee chairman Datuk Zahari Sarip said the allocation, approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, would fund 26 strategic projects across the agriculture, livestock and fisheries sub-sectors.

He said the increased funding, up from RM23.4mil in 2025, reflects the ministry’s confidence in Johor’s capability to drive the national agriculture agenda.

“The state government continues to place high priority on the development of the agri-food sector as a pillar of Bangsa Johor’s wellbeing,” he said on Thursday (April 16).

Zahari added that efforts are being intensified through initiatives such as empowering industry players with modern technology to enhance productivity and quality. The additional funds will support and expand existing programmes aimed at strengthening the sector state-wide.

Under the Johor Budget 2026 tabled by Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, more than RM40mil had already been set aside for the sector, covering 25 key initiatives.

These span production, technological modernisation, research, marketing and the welfare of farmers, breeders and fishermen.

Zahari expressed appreciation to the ministry for the allocation and pledged full commitment to the successful implementation of the approved programmes.
