PETALING JAYA: A 3.4 magnitude earthquake occurred in Keningau, Sabah, at 9.31am on Thursday (Sept 3), according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
MetMalaysia director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said the earthquake's epicentre was located at coordinates 5.3 degrees north, 116.1 degrees east with a depth of 10km.
“Tremors were felt throughout Keningau and surrounding areas. The department will continue monitoring the situation,” he said in a statement today.
Last week, a weak earthquake measuring 3.4 in magnitude struck Temenggor in Gerik, Perak at 12.06am on Friday (Aug 28).
Tremors were felt in the Gerik area of Perak.
On Aug 25, a weak earthquake measuring 3.1 in magnitude struck the waters off Batu Pahat, Johor, also at a depth of 10km.
On June 21, a separate earthquake measuring 3.3 in magnitude struck the same waters off Batu Pahat at 1.17am, again recorded at a depth of 10km.
