KUALA LUMPUR: The proposed Mara hospital will be open to patients regardless of race, says Mara chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
He dismissed suggestions that the facility would prioritise Bumiputera patients, saying it would be accessible to everyone.
“The hospital is not only for Bumiputera. Anyone can come for treatment,” he said at a press conference ahead of the 2026 Umno general assembly on Thursday (Sept 3).
Asyraf said the proposal was aimed at completing Mara’s existing health education and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
He said Mara already had healthcare-related institutions and programmes, including Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP), as well as nursing and biomedical studies.
He said the proposed hospital would complement the ecosystem, including areas involving medical equipment, clinics, pharmacies and dental services.
Mara announced on Aug 24 that it had formed a special task force to study the establishment of its first hospital.
The proposed facility is also intended to serve as a teaching hospital to support clinical training for students at UniKL RCMP.
The wider proposal would bring together Mara’s existing medical education, healthcare, technology and entrepreneurship capabilities, with the hospital potentially serving as a platform for clinical training, research and medical technology development.
Asyraf said the task force would study and evaluate the proposal before any final decision was made.
He said the hospital was part of Mara’s broader effort to develop the healthcare ecosystem while creating opportunities for Malay and Bumiputera participation in education, professional training and entrepreneurship.
