Telco services restored after repairs to 14 vandalised comms towers, says MCMC

SEREMBAN: Telecommunication services have been restored in areas affected by the vandalism of 14 telecommunication towers in Bukit Pilah after repairs to the towers were completed.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said that 2G and 4G services for over 1,668 users had been disrupted after equipment in a telecommunications tower belonging to CelcomDigi Bhd (CelcomDigi) was stolen, affecting 13 other telecommunication towers nearby.

"The MCMC conducted a site visit to the affected location together with CelcomDigi and found that some communication equipment, including the Radio Transport System (RTS) and Baseband Unit (BBU) were stolen and distrupted service in nearby areas.

"CelcomDigi carried out restoration work by reactiving all affected towers in stages," the commission said in a statement Tuesday (April 14).

The MCMC also urged the public to report any suspicious activities around telecommunication towers. - Bernama
