Nearly 12,000 programmes held to strengthen police integrity and wellbeing, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: Nearly 12,000 programmes involving more than 268,000 police personnel have been conducted this year to strengthen integrity and address issues affecting their wellbeing.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the programmes covered psychological development, spiritual wellbeing and financial management as part of a preventive approach to maintaining discipline and professionalism on the force.

He said early intervention was crucial to prevent personnel from falling into difficulties involving work-related stress, financial burdens and family conflicts that could affect their performance.

"Early detection of mental health issues and psychological stress must be prioritised by supervisors at all levels," he said in his speech during Bukit Aman's monthly assembly on Friday (Oct 23).

Khalid said the police remained committed to strengthening integrity through preventive measures, including training and intervention programmes conducted by the Religious and Counselling Division of the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department.

He stressed that prevention was the most effective strategy in ensuring personnel remained mentally and emotionally prepared to carry out their duties.

On governance and compliance, he said the department had intensified efforts to improve professionalism through the establishment of the Frontliner Task Force, which focuses on officers’ conduct when dealing with the public.

"Another initiative, the Investigation Management Task Force, aims to strengthen investigation procedures," he added.

Khalid also expressed confidence in the police Anti-Corruption Strategy 2026-2030, which outlines 32 action plans covering human capital development and governance improvements.

He said the strategy must be understood and practised across all departments rather than remain merely a document, adding that integrity should become part of daily working culture.

"We will also hold the police-level National Integrity Day celebration on Nov 11, with the theme 'Integrity in Organisations: Not a Choice but an Obligation'.

"The event will involve representatives from the integrity units of external agencies as part of efforts to promote transparency and build a clean working culture," he said.

Khalid said 35 police personnel who had shown exceptional courage by rejecting bribes while performing their duties would also be recognised during the celebration.

He said the recognition was intended to encourage officers and personnel at every level, from senior management to the rank and file, to uphold integrity.

Khalid urged all police personnel to continue strengthening discipline and uphold integrity as a non-negotiable principle, while serving with sincerity, professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility.
