Soldier assaulted in camp dies, probe reclassified as murder


PETALING JAYA: Investigations into the assault of a soldier are now being conducted as a murder case following his death.

"After the victim's death on Saturday (April 11) at 9.34am, the investigation previously conducted under Section 325 (Punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt) will now be reclassified under Section 302 (Punishment for murder) of the Penal Code.

"An application to conduct a post mortem has been issued and the police will reexamine previous statements. If the need arises, additional statements will be recorded," Bentong OCPD Supt Zaiham Mohd Kahar said in a statement.

Previously, the suspect allegedly assaulted seven military personnel at the Bentong Camp after being dissatisfied with how the victims carried out their assigned weapon store cleaning duties on March 30.

The suspect, a lower-rank non-commissioned officer, used physical force, including slapping and punching the victims in the face and abdomen.

“The incident occurred at the 25th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (25 RAMD) on March 30.

“As a result, Prebet Muhammad Amirul Raziq Rosafindi lost consciousness and was initially given emergency treatment at the 25 RAMD Armed Forces Medical Centre before being transferred to Hospital Bentong.

The Army previously said in a statement that Prebet Muhammad Amirul Raziq Rosafindi lost consciousness following the attack.

In the same incident, six other personnel were not injured but were brought to Hospital Bentong for medical checks after their statements were recorded.
