Body found at Tawau jetty entangled in fishing vessel's anchor line


KOTA KINABALU: A man was found dead, entangled in the anchor line of a fishing vessel, at the fish market jetty in Tawau early on Thursday (April 9).

It is learnt that the 40-year-old victim was found around 3.30am, when people in the area were getting ready for work.

Tawau fire station chief Jemishin Ujin said they received a call from Tawau police about the incident at 3.35am and rushed to the scene, where they found the lifeless victim.

"We were asked to help get the victim out of the water," he said.

He added that firemen had to use special equipment to cut the thick rope.

Jemishin said medical officials pronounced the victim dead at the scene and police took custody of the body for further action.
