KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 56 foreign nationals have been arrested, and electronic waste (e-waste) worth RM187mil has been seized in Ops Hazard 3.0, an operation conducted simultaneously across three states on Monday (April 6).

Central Brigade General Operations Force commander Senior Asst Comm Hakemal Hawari said those detained were from China, Myanmar and Bangladesh, and were aged 30 to 50.

“The operation, which began at 10.30am, was carried out at 14 locations in Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Johor.

“All the foreign nationals arrested were working as e-waste factory workers,” he told a press conference here on Thursday (April 9).

SAC Hakemal said the integrated operation also involved the Air Operations Force, Bukit Aman’s Anti-Money Laundering Act unit, the Environment Department, local authorities and the Inland Revenue Board.

“Of those detained, 48 are men while eight are women,” he added.

He said the case is being investigated under the Environmental Quality Act 1974 and the Trade, Business and Industrial By-Laws 2021.

“Investigations are also being carried out under the Income Tax Act 1967, the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, as well as the Immigration Act 1959/63,” he said.
