Teen’s pregnancy leads to arrest of three men in Tawau

Police arrested one of the suspects.

KOTA KINABALU: A teenage girl’s pregnancy led to the arrest of three immigrant men in Tawau, Sabah, for alleged rape and immigration offences.

The girl had told her sister she felt pain in her genital area and was taken to a hospital for a medical check-up.

Doctors found that she was pregnant. She then admitted she had recently had sex with a man she knew at a hotel.

A police report was lodged. Police arrested two foreign men in their 30s to assist in the investigation.

Tawau district police chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin said a third suspect, a 29-year-old labourer, was later arrested at a factory at Mile 3, Jalan Apas.

“After going through their background checks, we found that the three suspects did not have any previous convictions,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (April 8).

He said police were investigating the case under rape laws and the Immigration Act.
