Two hikers stranded in national park rescued


SIBU: The two hikers stranded at Lambir Hills National Park in Miri have been safely rescued.

According to a statement from the Fire and Rescue Department operations centre, it took about six hours for the rescue team to reach the hikers and bring them down.

One of the hikers, Gordon Brian, 32, sustained a leg injury, while the other, Wan Mohamad Hidayat, 42, was unharmed, Bernama reported.

An emergency call was made to the operations centre at 6.30pm on Saturday, reporting that three hikers were stranded in the park.

Less than an hour after the call was made, a member of the hiking group, Mohd Shendy Sediyeya, 40, managed to descend to seek help while his teammates remained at the site.

All hikers were transported by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit to Miri Hospital for further treatment.
