KUALA LUMPUR: The government will continue to strengthen measures to address the global energy crisis, with a focus on safeguarding the welfare of the people, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said.

He said the matter was highlighted during a briefing session with his deputy and Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching in Kulai on Saturday night.

“In facing global challenges, our strength lies in discipline, reinforced by cooperation and supported by confidence.

“Insya-Allah, Malaysia will remain strong, stable and resilient in overcoming any challenges,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday, Bernama reported.

Fahmi also urged the public to make use of the PriceCatcher application to check prices and make informed purchasing decisions.

Developed by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry and launched in March 2019, PriceCatcher displays the prices of 480 selected items at wet markets, hypermarkets, supermarkets, minimarkets and grocery shops.

Six categories of items are monitored, namely fresh goods, dry goods, packaged items, milk and baby products, hygiene products and beverages.

Meanwhile in Bagan Datuk, Perak, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the government is making every effort to find solutions to address pressures arising from the global energy crisis.

He said the commitment includes convening weekly meetings with industry leaders through the National Economic Action Council to provide briefings and input to council members, as well as discuss possible solutions.

“Their views are taken into account in the measures to be implemented by the government. Likewise, daily briefings are being held live, and we hope all information can be conveyed to the people,” said Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister.

Speaking to reporters after attending a Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration on Saturday night, the Bagan Datuk MP said all parties must not remain in their comfort zones and should be prepared to face the ongoing crisis.

Also present were Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah and Majlis Amanah Rakyat chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
