Master knowledge but don't abandon character building, morals, says Anwar

KUALA KANGSAR: Mastery of knowledge is important, but do not abandon the foundation of character building and morals, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said the fundamental, and integral issues like discipline, morals and values cannot be ignored.

"God made us humans, not machines.

"Ensure our education does not leave out the very basic aspects," he said in his speech during his visit to Malay College Kuala Kangsar here on Saturday (April 4).

"Excellence must be accompanied by conscience, awareness, and enlightenment," he said.

Anwar said it was important how people use their information, knowledge and wisdom.

"The world has no shortage of the right people and those who are ignorant.

"There are also no less intelligent people who make all the most advanced technology, aircraft and weapons, and use them," he said.

"A lot are graduates from leading universities but are involved in wars.

"They can kill, be cruel and colonise other people's countries without conscience, like what is happening in Gaza.

"If we don't run away from moral principles, ethics, values, we will be alright," he added.

He added that it was equally important to be able to filter through information that is useful.

"We are all rushing to obtain information, but not all information is knowledge.

"Some information can be damaging and obscene," he said.
