PETALING JAYA: The Selangor government has clarified that newly drawn-up planning guidelines on non-Muslim places of worship in commercial shoplots have not yet been implemented or enforced by any local authority.
In a statement on Saturday (May 23), special committee for non-Islamic affairs (Limas) co-chairman Ng Sze Han said a review of the guidelines administered by PLANMalaysia Selangor would be carried out by the state in consultation with religious associations, with a meeting to be held in early June.
"The state government is dedicated to resolving this administrative and technical alignment through constructive dialogue, ensuring that Selangor remains a progressive, fair, and inclusive state for all.
“No enforcement action will take place while this review is ongoing," it read.
The statement comes after Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung raised concerns over the recently published Selangor State Planning Guidelines and Standards for Community Facilities, which were approved at a state executive council meeting on Nov 12 last year.
Under the section governing non-Islamic places of worship, such facilities may not be located in commercial zones and existing buildings in such areas cannot be converted for their use.
