Police tracking down suspect over Shah Alam fireworks stunt


SHAH ALAM: Police are investigating a viral video showing a man setting off fireworks from a moving vehicle in Bukit Jelutong here.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Ramsay Embol said a 50-second video on the nighttime incident has been circulating on social media.

“The suspect was seen standing through the car’s sunroof and firing several shots of fireworks into the air,” he said in a statement on Saturday (March 28).

He added that police received a report on the incident at about 12.48pm the same day after the video gained public attention.

“Investigations confirmed that the incident occurred at Elmina Rainforest along Persiaran Ficus, Seksyen U15,” he said.

ACP Ramsay said the case is being investigated under Section 286 of the Penal Code for negligent conduct with respect to explosive substances, which carries a penalty of up to six months’ jail, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.

“The case is also being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957, which provides for imprisonment of up to seven years or a fine of up to RM10,000.

“In addition, investigations are being carried out under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 2007, which carries a fine of up to RM50,000 or a jail term of up to one year, or both,” he added.

Police are actively tracking down the suspect.
