Over 140 litterbugs caught in Johor since Jan 1


JOHOR BARU: Over 140 compound notices have been issued against offenders under the new anti-littering law in Johor, says housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor.

He said 142 people have been caught littering since the law was enforced on Jan 1, comprising 84 Malaysians and 58 foreigners.

"The court ordered offenders to perform between four and eight hours of community service, alongside fines of RM500 to RM1,500," he said after checking on five litterbugs ordered to clean a beach in Kg Senibong here on Saturday (March 28).

He added that 1,500 CCTV cameras have been installed at areas such as Pasir Gudang, Iskandar Puteri and Kulai.

He noted that the initiative also supports the Johor Bersih agenda to instill discipline and foster a culture of cleanliness among the public.
