GOPENG: SJK (T) Gopeng will receive a new building to replace its dilapidated main block, which has suffered severe termite infestation and structural deterioration, under a RM14.5mil redevelopment project approved by the government, says Wong Kah Woh.
The Deputy Education Minister said the project, which was approved last year, involves demolishing the existing unsafe structure and constructing a new building on the same site.
He said the school’s main block, which comprises classrooms and administrative offices, was found to be affected by termite infestation, and the Public Works Department determined that reconstruction was required.
“The redevelopment plan includes six classrooms, administrative offices, a teachers’ room, a sports store, as well as additional facilities such as a Design and Technology (RBT) workshop, a science laboratory, a counselling room and a meeting room to support teaching and learning.

“Tenders are expected to be called in June, with construction anticipated to begin by the end of the year, subject to the appointment of a contractor.
“The project is expected to take around 22 months or less, with completion targeted for end-2028,” he said on Friday (March 27).
Wong said that during the construction period, temporary modular classrooms will be provided to ensure continuity of lessons.
He said the school, established in 1946 and relocated to its current site in 1965, is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.
The school, which sits on government-owned land, currently has 122 students, including 27 preschool pupils across two classes.
Wong said the redevelopment also takes into account the limited land area of about two acres, necessitating a vertical, three-storey design to accommodate both academic and administrative needs while ensuring adequate capacity for future enrolment.
