Eight injured in multi-vehicle pileup on north-south expressway near Gopeng


IPOH: Eight people were injured in a multi-vehicle accident involving a lorry, two vans and four cars at KM291 of the north-south expressway near Gopeng.

The Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (Operations), Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, said the accident occurred on the northbound side of the expressway.

He said an emergency call was received at 4.29pm on Tuesday (June 23) and a team from the Gopeng Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene.

He said upon arrival at 4.41pm, firefighters found that all eight victims had already exited their vehicles and none were trapped.

“The vehicles involved were a container lorry, a Toyota Lite Ace van, a Toyota Hiace van, a Honda HR-V, a Perodua Bezza, a Perodua Axia and a Toyota Vios.

“The Toyota Lite Ace van carried three occupants, with two sustaining serious injuries and one suffering minor injuries.

“The driver of the container lorry and four occupants of the Toyota Hiace sustained minor injuries,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

He said all injured victims were treated by Health Ministry personnel before being transported by ambulance to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here for further treatment.

Firefighters conducted monitoring and stabilisation operations before carrying out clean-up work to remove accident debris and an oil spill from the road surface.

He said the operation was brought under control at 5.50pm and concluded at 6.02pm after authorities confirmed the area was safe.
