IPOH: A three-year-old girl has died after being found unconscious in a wastewater pond at Simpang 4, Permatang Pelandok near Teluk Intan.
Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Chua Kok Lian said that the incident is believed to have occurred on Monday (March 23) around 7pm.
“The victim was discovered unconscious in a wastewater pond near her home.
“She was rushed to the Teluk Intan Hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead by medical personnel,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (March 24).
Police received a report regarding the toddler’s death at about 9.24pm.
“Checks at the scene revealed that the pond had no safety features such as barriers or covers and was estimated to be about four feet deep,” he added.
At the time of the incident, family members were believed to be cleaning up the house after an event held there, before realising the child was missing.

“So far, no criminal elements have been detected. The case has been classified under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001.
“Further investigations are ongoing, including awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death,” said ACP Chua.
He also reminded parents and guardians to ensure children are closely supervised, especially in high-risk areas such as ponds, drains, ditches, or any open water sources.
“Child safety is a shared responsibility and must not be taken lightly.
“Preventive measures such as installing barriers, covers, or safety fencing should be implemented to avoid similar incidents from recurring.
“Failure to take proper safety precautions can pose serious risks and lead to unwanted consequences,” he said.
