Communities urged to play their part in fire prevention

SUBANG JAYA: Make sure your home and its surroundings are safe and secure even if heading out for a short while during this festive season, says the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department.

Its director Datuk Wan Razali Wan Ismail said safety is a shared responsibility, urging communities to play their part in keeping surroundings safe.

"Switch off all electrical appliances and mitigate any situations that could lead to fires.

“Avoid being forgetful and complacent when it comes to safety. This includes even if you are leaving the home for a short period as fires can happen at any time,” he said, noting that fires resulting from electrical sources remain high.

He said this when met at the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Department station on Sunday (March 22).

Wan Razali earlier visited officers on duty during the Hari Raya Aidilfitiri celebrations at the station and other nearby stations.

He also said that 80% of the state’s officers are on duty with only 20% allowed to go on leave during this festive period.

“Our preparedness is high. We are also prepared for the hot and unpredictable weather ahead, including for heavy rains that could happen at any time.

"Safety is a collective effort. Always pay close attention to your surroundings and belongings to keep safe,” he said.
