JOHOR BARU: A foreign youth has been charged with murdering a woman, believed to be a sex worker, in a hotel room at Taman Maju Jaya near here last week.
Johor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Hoo Choon Huat said the 19-year-old suspect was apprehended at a condominium in the city at 8pm on March 11.
"The suspect has been charged in the Magistrate's Court today and case mention has been fixed for April 20," he said in a statement on Wednesday (March 18).

He said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries either the death penalty or 30 to 40 years' jail with 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
DCP Hoo said the suspect does not have a criminal record and tested negative for drugs at the time of his arrest.
He said police also seized several items believed to be related to the incident: a brown T-shirt, blue denim jeans, a black cap, black rubber shoes, a CCTV hard disc and two mobile phones.

It was reported that a woman was found dead in a hotel room with multiple stab wounds on her body, nine on her chest alone.
Police were alerted to the death of the 37-year-old foreign woman, believed to be a sex worker, at 5.30am on March 11.
The victim was believed to have been killed between 1.30am and 5.30am in the hotel room, after which the suspect fled the scene.
