KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) is working closely with the government to ensure that the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign remains on track despite the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
Its president Nigel Wong said Malaysia’s geographical and geopolitical position places it in a strong position to weather external uncertainties.
“MATTA is working very closely with the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry. They have their strategic plans, and we do align with them.
“Fortunately, Malaysia is in a very good situation at this point. We are still among the most affordable in the region while offering the infrastructure and comforts that travellers desire.
“Even though our currency is a bit stronger now in terms of affordability, we are also still among the most affordable in the region and at the same time able to offer the urban infrastructure and comforts that travellers desire at very affordable rates,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
Wong said MATTA will intensify collaboration with Asean partners to boost intra-regional travel, noting that the region remained a key source of arrivals.
“We are very well connected with our Asean neighbours. They remain one of the largest sources of tourists in Malaysia.
“We will be intensifying plans to promote intra-Asean travel, which will benefit VM2026,” Wong said.
