Perak cops identify almost 80 accident-prone areas


GOPENG: Perak police have identified 48 traffic hot spots and 29 black spots locations in the state as part of Ops Selamat 26, aimed at ensuring smooth traffic flow and reducing road accidents during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri period.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin a total of 255 officers and personnel would will be deployed across the state.

"The main focus of the operation is to ensure smooth traffic flow and reduce road accidents, safeguard homes and curbing house break-ins," he said during the launch of the operation at the Rural Transformation Centre here on Tuesday (March 17).

He said traffic is expected to increase by up to 30% from March 18-20 and police would be stationed identified areas.

"During the previous Ops Selamat, a total of 960 accidents were reported in Perak, including 10 fatalities

"We are targeting a 5% reduction in road accidents this year," he said.

Comm Noor Hisam said enforcement would focus on six major offences including, speeding, driving on emergency lanes, overtaking on double lines, queue cutting, running red lights and using mobile phones while driving.

"Motorists are advised to plan their journeys, get sufficient rest before travelling and adhere to traffic rules.

"Parents are urged to monitor their children and ensure they do not engage in illegal activities such as street racing," he added.
