Johor fire dept receives eight new engines to enhance firefighting reach

JOHOR BARU: Johor has received eight new Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) engines, including a rare unit equipped with a water cannon to enhance firefighting coverage.

Johor Fire and Rescue Department director Siti Rohani Nadir said the units will replace older, decommissioned engines.

"One of the new assets is a water cannon-equipped engine stationed in Iskandar Puteri due to its proximity to high-risk industrial areas.

"It is one of only two such assets available nationwide, with the other located in Selangor," she said after the department’s monthly assembly on Tuesday (March 17).

The new assets have been distributed to stations in Iskandar Puteri, Penawar, Renggam, Labis, Segamat, Kluang, Batu Pahat and Sungai Rengit.

The department also received four utility light off-road vehicles, with more expected throughout the year.

Siti Rohani said the equipment features the latest specifications to improve operational performance and response times.

She added that a new fire station is under construction in central Johor Baru to cater to the city’s rapid development, including the RTS Link and the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone.

"The new Johor Baru Central fire station will help cover urban areas more effectively," she said, noting that the Larkin station currently handles most of the area's coverage.

Upgrades are also underway at the Kluang and Larkin stations, with all projects expected to be completed by 2027.
