Soldier reported missing from Pulau Pandanan outpost


KOTA KINABALU: A soldier has been reported missing from his outpost on Pulau Pandanan in Semporna since Friday (March 13).

Fredenick anak Petrus, 21, who serves with the Sixth Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (6 RRD) based at Ulu Tiram Camp in Johor, was discovered missing from the Pulau Pandanan outpost near the maritime border with the southern Philippines’ Tawi-Tawi island chain.

According to a statement posted on the Semporna police Facebook page on Monday (March 16), his absence was discovered at about 7am on Saturday during morning roll call at the outpost.

In a police report, Army Ranger officer Mohd Azhar Sainuddin said Fredenick was not present at the Pulau Pandanan post during the inspection.

Search operations were immediately carried out by army personnel around the Pandanan settlement and surrounding areas, but the soldier has yet to be found.

Police have urged members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist in locating the missing soldier.
