IPOH: Road users must be vigilant when travelling during the upcoming Hari Raya festive season, Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin reminds.
Comm Noor Hisam said traffic volume is expected to increase during the festive period as many people begin travelling back to their hometowns.
“I would like to advise road users returning to their hometowns over the next week to remain patient while driving, be considerate towards other road users and always comply with the existing laws and regulations,” he told reporters after a handover ceremony involving district police OCPDs and the state narcotics chief on Friday (March 13).
He also urged motorists to stay updated on traffic conditions through official channels, including highway concessionaires such as PLUS Malaysia Berhad.
“The police will also continue to provide updates through our official Facebook page, particularly the Perak contingent,” he added.

Comm Noor Hisam also advised the public who plan to leave their homes during the festive period to inform the police by submitting the balik kampung notification form manually at the nearest police station or through the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application.
He said this would allow the police to conduct more frequent patrols and monitoring of houses left vacant during the festive season.
“The safety of road users as well as the security of premises or homes left unattended is indeed the responsibility of the police and we will ensure they remain safe throughout the festive period,” he said.
Separately, Comm Noor Hisam said issues related to houses of worship and racial sentiments in the state remain under control.
“It is a very delicate issue and we must handle it carefully so that it does not cause unease or disrupt harmony.
“We are currently gathering information on all registered houses of worship in Perak.
“The next step is to discuss the matter with the state authorities on the way forward. The police will cooperate with the state government as this is a very delicate issue,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad will take up a new role as Deputy Commandant (Training) at Pusat Latihan Polis Kuala Lumpur (Pulapol), while ACP Muhammad Najib Hamzah will replace him from Friday.
Meanwhile, Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin will retire on Sunday with his position to be taken over by Supt Chua Kok Liang, former Cheras deputy OCPD.
Perak narcotics chief Asst Comm Lee King Chuan will assume the post at the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) as its investigation and prosecution director, with the rank of SAC. His post will be taken over by Deputy Supt Mohd Husni Manaf.
Meanwhile, a handover ceremony for the Persatuan Keluarga Polis (Perkep) district chairpersons for Ipoh and Hilir Perak was also held, with Syahda Abu Hasan taking over as the new Ipoh Perkep chairperson from Lilly Salawati Sahrani, while Chen Zhong Zhong assumed the role of Hilir Perak Perkep chairperson from Wan Shamsuria Fatimah.
