Seri Kembangan forest fire fully extinguished, says Bomba

PETALING JAYA: A forest fire on a hillside in Taman Puncak Jalil, Seri Kembangan, reported to have affected nearly a hectare, was fully extinguished early Thursday (March 12).

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the firefighting operation ended at 3.48am after the blaze was brought fully under control.

He said the department received an emergency call at 4.12pm on Wednesday (March 11), with the first fire engine from the Seri Kembangan Fire and Rescue Station arriving about nine minutes later.

“At the initial stage, the hillside forest fire near the Putrajaya Toll Plaza along the KL–Putrajaya Expressway (MEX) was estimated to involve an area of nearly a hectare.

“However, the fire continued to spread during the firefighting operation, eventually affecting a total area of about 37 acres,” he said in a statement on Thursday (March 12).

The operation involved personnel from the Seri Kembangan Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by teams from the Cyberjaya, Puchong, Jalan Penchala and Subang Jaya stations.

“Firefighting efforts were carried out using two 200ft hose lines, two water jets from fire engines and firebeaters to prevent the blaze from spreading further.

“The operation was also divided into six main sectors to facilitate control in the hilly terrain, which is difficult to access, with drone units deployed for aerial monitoring,” he added.

A total of 27 firefighters were involved in the operation, and no casualties or structural damage were reported.
