ALOR SETAR: Kedah has allocated almost RM8mil to ease the burden on the people during Ramadan and ahead of Aidilfitri.
Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the RM7.925mil allocation was a large sum in the context of the state government’s financial capacity.
“We will take the best care of this state... All the state’s revenue and wealth belong to the people of Kedah,” he said at a press conference after the 2026 Aidilfitri contribution presentation ceremony at Wisma Darul Aman on Thursday (Mar 12).
Sanusi said several allocations had been channelled to the people through various contributions in conjunction with Ramadan and Aidilfitri.
Among them was a special Aidilfitri aid of RM1,000 each for 5,600 Kedah civil servants, involving a total of RM5.6mil.
The state government also channelled contributions to chairmen and secretaries of the Village Heads Council (MKK), known as ‘duit beras pulut’, amounting to RM496,000 for 2,480 recipients, he said.
In addition, state-appointed imams received RM102,500 involving 205 recipients.
A total of 40 Kafa teachers appointed by mosques as well as Parent-Teacher Associations (PIBG) also received RM500 each, involving an allocation of RM20,000.
Staff of Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah (UniShams) received RM210,000 in contributions involving 420 recipients.
“I hope next year the allocation for this programme can be increased and multiplied so that more people can benefit,” Sanusi said.
He added that this year’s contributions also involved Quran teachers, Muslim funeral bath attendants, grave diggers, traditional bone setters, village midwives and converts, with a total allocation of RM2.145mil.
A further RM180,000 was allocated for organising breaking-of-fast events at districts, institutions and other targeted groups.
“Overall, the state government has allocated RM7.925mil for various welfare assistance in conjunction with Ramadan this year,” he said.
Sanusi added that similar contributions were also given during festive celebrations such as Deepavali and Chinese New Year.
