SHAH ALAM: A local man and a temple worker were arrested after police seized more than 105kg of syabu worth RM5.25mil from a van in Gombak during a raid on March 3.
The seizure was made by a team from the Selangor Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) together with the Gombak NCID.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said police discovered 64 plastic packets believed to contain syabu packed in five canvas bags.
“All the packets were found in five canvas bags placed in the rear compartment of a van,” he said during a press conference at the Selangor police contingent headquarters here, on Wednesday (March 11).
He said the drugs were believed to have been distributed through courier delivery services to avoid detection by authorities.
The first suspect is a 34-year-old local man who works as a courier delivery worker, while the second suspect is a 47-year-old foreign national employed at a temple in Batu Caves.
Checks showed that the local suspect has three previous criminal records, while the foreign suspect has no prior offences in Malaysia.
“Initial urine screening tests found both suspects negative for drugs,” he added.
Police also seized a motorcycle worth RM2,000 under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
