KUALA LUMPUR: Police have uncovered a drug trafficking syndicate’s tactic of using a lorry to transport cannabis from northern Peninsular Malaysia to the south following the arrest of three men in Taman Sri Rampai here last Thursday (March 5).
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the suspects, aged between 27 and 38, were arrested and cannabis worth an estimated RM10.2mil was seized.
“The raid was conducted on a lorry parked in front of a terrace house, where checks uncovered 10 boxes containing drugs believed to be cannabis buds weighing 124.7kg.
“Initial investigations found that the first suspect acted as the syndicate’s coordinator while the other two served as ‘runners’ responsible for delivering the drugs,” he said at a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre on Monday.
Comm Hussein said the syndicate was believed to have been active since October last year and used lorries to transport the drugs.
“We also seized a four-wheel-drive vehicle worth an estimated RM85,000 under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988,” he said.
He added that the drugs were believed to be intended for distribution in the Klang Valley and could have been used by about 249,000 drug users.
Comm Hussein said initial urine screening tests found that all three suspects tested negative for drugs.
“Checks on their records found that the second suspect has one prior drug-related offence, while the third suspect has three previous offences.
“All three suspects have been remanded for seven days from last Thursday until Wednesday to assist in investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
