Cops seek public help to track down trio linked to Sabah drug trafficking syndicate

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are tracking down three individuals believed to be linked to the Ops Coleoptera drug trafficking case in Sabah as investigations into the syndicate continue.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said authorities have so far arrested 11 individuals and seized about RM7.1mil in assets, including cash and jewellery.

“So far, we have seized approximately RM7.1mil, involving cash, jewellery and several other assets,” he told a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre here on Monday (March 9).

He added that police have released the suspects’ details and photographs and are seeking the public’s assistance in locating them.

The development follows Sabah’s biggest drug bust on Feb 13, when authorities seized more than three tonnes of drugs and arrested eight suspects in a series of raids conducted since January.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the operation, dubbed Ops Coleoptera, uncovered a syndicate that shipped cargo containers declared as machinery to Sabah via sea routes from Port Klang, which served as the first transit point.

The total value of the seizure, including drugs and assets such as vehicles, jewellery and cash, amounted to more than RM174mil.

Police said the drugs seized could potentially supply over 16 million addicts for a single use.
