Bukit Mertajam MCA launches programme to help locals with land tax revision

BUTTERWORTH: Bukit Mertajam residents with grievances over the recent land tax revision can now seek assistance from the Bukit Mertajam MCA service team.

The team has launched the Land Tax Appeal Assistance programme to aid those who have queries and grievances about the recent revision.

Service team leader Tan Yang Pang said that in light of the recent increase in land tax, they have set up an appeals assistance service to help landowners.

"The land tax revision has caused sharp increases for many landowners and small industrial property owners, resulting in shock and added financial burden.

"Our service team aims to help landowners in the Bukit Mertajam area compile documents, understand procedures, and submit reasonable appeals to the state government.

"Landowners who have questions regarding the land tax increase, believe that the valuation is unreasonable, or require assistance in filling out forms and preparing documents are welcome to seek help," he said in a statement on Tuesday (March 3).

He said the team has received multiple complaints from landowners across Bukit Mertajam, adding that the land tax hike has burdened small and medium-range property owners.

"Our team hopes to serve as a bridge within the community, assisting the public in lawfully expressing their concerns and ensuring that their rights are properly addressed.

"We would like to remind landowners intending to file an appeal to bring along a copy of the latest land tax bill, a copy of their land title or related property documents, a copy of their identity card, and other relevant supporting documents," he said.

Tan said the service is provided on a voluntary, public service basis to help residents clarify procedures and organise documentation.

"It is provided free of charge and we will not be accepting any money for this service.

"We call on all landowners to make use of the appeals period and follow proper channels to file their appeals and express their concerns rationally in pursuit of fair and transparent governance," he said.

For further inquiries, the public may visit the Bukit Mertajam MCA division service centre during office hours.

The service is available from Monday to Friday, 10am to 3pm.

For further details, contact Tan Yang Pang at 016-2220098 or the service centre at 04-5394003.
