PKR suspends Fahmi Zainol from party posts pending court case

PETALING JAYA: Penang state exco Fahmi Zainol, who has been charged at the Magistrate’s Court here with voluntarily causing hurt to his wife, will be suspended immediately from all party positions until the conclusion of his court case, says PKR.

PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said this was among the matters discussed during the central leadership council meeting on Sunday (March 1).

"On this matter, the council has decided that Fahmi be suspended from all party positions until the conclusion of his court case, with immediate effect," she said in a statement on Sunday.

Fuziah added that she will be sending a letter to the Chief Minister soon on Fahmi's position in the Penang state exco line-up.

"The council also discussed the show-cause letter issued to (Pandan MP) Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and the reply he has submitted.

"The party notes that he remains a party member and reminds him to continuously adhere to the party constitution, code of ethics and disciplinary regulations as a sign of his continued loyalty as a party member," she said.

She said the council was also informed that the Prime Minister will table an emergency motion in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (March 2) condemning the brutal attacks by Israel and its allies against Iran.

PKR, said Fuziah, had also received 14,225 new members between October 2025 to January 2026, among whom are Dr Sani Araby Salim Araby (Director-General of the Sumud Nusantara Control Centre (SNCC) and Hidayat Abdullah (Strategic Manager of MAPIM).

The council, she added, has decided to appoint Chiew Choon Man, Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister as an ex officio member of the council as well as Muhd Haris Mohd Ismail as Deputy Chairman of the Religious Bureau.
