Johor to ensure poor families get a home

JOHOR BARU: Since its inception, the Rumah Kasih Johor programme has provided free homes to nearly 400 families, with plans to build 700 units by this year to ensure no low-income household is left behind.

State housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said four families in Kulai were among the latest recipients of Rumah Percuma Johor. The new homes would provide the families with safer, more comfortable and dignified living environment, he said.

“Rumah Percuma Johor, which is under the Rumah Kasih Johor programme, reflected the state government’s commitment under the leadership of Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

“The well-being of Bangsa Johor must begin with the most basic foundation – a proper home,” he said here yesterday. Mohd Jafni, who is also the Bukit Permai assemblyman, said a house was not merely a physical structure, but safety and hope for a family.

He said as of January last year, a total of 393 families across Johor have benefitted from the programme, covering districts such as Kota Tinggi, Batu Pahat, Muar, Pontian, Kulai, Kluang, Segamat, Mersing, Johor Baru and Tangkak.

“The state had initially targeted 500 Rumah Kasih Johor units by 2026 but the mentri besar later decided to increase the allocation by 200 units, bringing the total to 700 homes for families with genuine need.
