MCA Youth to embark on nationwide higher education guidance roadshow

PETALING JAYA: MCA Youth will embark on a nationwide Higher Education Guidance and Counselling Roadshow throughout March to assist students and parents with the 2026/2027 UPUOnline application process.

Its education consultative committee chairman Ong Chee Siang said the initiative is held in conjunction with the 2026/2027 academic year UPUOnline application cycle to provide clearer direction on further education options.

According to the Education Ministry, the application period for SPM leavers and the first phase of applications for STPM or equivalent qualification holders runs from Jan 29 to March 23.

With SPM results due to be released soon, Ong said many students and parents often feel uncertain when filling in their course choices due to insufficient information or unclear guidance.

He stressed that the roadshow is open not only to SPM, STPM and equivalent qualification holders, but also to current secondary school students who wish to prepare early for their future academic pathways.

“Higher education planning should not be rushed after examination results are released. Students should begin developing a clear direction from Form Four, Form Five or even earlier,” he said in a statement here on Saturday (Feb 28).

Ong added that while the government has in recent years actively promoted Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as well as diversified education pathways, information on these options has yet to be fully disseminated.

He said the roadshow would cover public and private university pathways, overseas studies, UPU applications, TVET routes, as well as scholarship and loan opportunities to ensure students and parents have a comprehensive understanding of available choices.

Ong added that further education is not merely about entering university but a crucial starting point in life planning, urging parents to engage in meaningful discussions with their children about their future direction.

He said admission to the roadshow is free and the public can refer to the event poster or the MCA Youth official Facebook page for the schedule of state-level stops.
