IGP calls for patience as Bukit Aman probes alleged plot to topple government

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is conducting a comprehensive investigation before taking any further action over allegations of attempts to topple the government and sabotage national stability, says Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail (pic).

The Inspector-General of Police said the probe requires time and cannot be rushed to ensure that every aspect is thoroughly examined.

"This matter is still under investigation and we hope all parties will remain patient. Investigations will certainly be carried out professionally based on the facts and evidence obtained," he said when contacted on Saturday (Feb 28).

In a statement issued on Friday (Feb 27), Mohd Khalid said that a police report was received on Thursday (Feb 26) concerning the issue.

The report allegedly involves an influential local individual and an international media agency.

He added that investigations are being conducted by the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department Special Investigation Unit.

The case is being investigated under Section 124B of the Penal Code, which relates to activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.

In a separate statement, the Attorney-General's Chambers stressed that any party found to be involved, if proven, must be held accountable under existing laws.

It added that this applies regardless of the position or background of the individuals involved.
