Factory operator fined RM10,000 for allowing another person to use bank account

KUANTAN: A factory operator was fined RM10,000 by the Sessions Court here on Friday (Feb 27), after pleading guilty to giving possession of his bank account without lawful authority to another person in March last year.

Judge Sazlina Safie meted out the fine, in default two months in jail, on Chong Chin Jong, 33.

Choong, still single, was charged with indirectly allowing another person to have control over his bank account.

The offence was committed at a house in Lorong Seri Teruntum 21, here from about 10.15pm on March 12 last year until 10.42am the following day.

The charge, framed under Section 424B of the Penal Code, provides for a fine of not less than RM10,000 and not more than RM100,000 or imprisonment of not less than one year and not more than seven years, upon conviction.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Nurul Izzati Wan Mohammad Zahari,  while Chong was represented by lawyer Mohd Shuhairil Ziqrul Sapi.

Based on the facts of the case, a victim of a scam syndicate made two money transfer transactions, totalling RM195,000, to Chong's account on March 12 and 13 last year.

The victim had been dealing with a woman who introduced herself as Jess Aisyah and expressed interest in participating in a stock investment via a social media-posted application called Quantum on Facebook.

The victim was persuaded to increase her investment but, lacking sufficient capital, sought to withdraw her money. She only realised she had been scammed after the suspect gave various excuses, preventing the return of the funds. – Bernama
