Johari to discuss delaying relocation of traders to Raja Bot Complex with DBKL

PETALING JAYA: Thirty-four traders in Lorong Haji Hussein, Chow Kit, are appealing for their relocation to the Raja Bot Market Complex to be deferred until the redevelopment project is fully completed, says Datuk Seri Johari Ghani.

The Investment, Trade and Industry Minister said while most traders agreed in principle to move, they insisted that the facilities at the new complex be completed first to ensure the continuity of their businesses.

He said that the Raja Bot Market Complex project had been left idle for nearly 10 years, and relocating small traders while construction works were still ongoing would affect their ability to operate.

“I understand the difficulties faced by the traders in Lorong Haji Hussein, as this is their source of livelihood. I will raise the matter with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and arrange a meeting with the Mayor,” he said.

Previously, traders at the Raja Bot market, better known as the Chow Kit market, were not ready to relocate because they were concerned about a lack of customers.

Johari had previously highlighted the slow progress of the market’s redevelopment as a key problem in the Titiwangsa constituency.
