PUTRAJAYA: Investigations into the Flying Doctor Service helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Sarawak, which claimed five lives, are ongoing.

Government spokesman Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil (pic) said the Cabinet was informed on Wednesday (Sept 9) that the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) was investigating the incident and that its findings would be presented later.

"The Prime Minister and Cabinet also extend their condolences to the families of the five victims of the Flying Doctor helicopter crash yesterday (Tuesday, Sept 8)," he told a press conference after the Cabinet meeting here.

Asked about assistance for the victims’ next of kin, Fahmi said all five victims had been identified and their families notified, as previously announced by the Health Minister.

He said the cause of the crash had yet to be determined and that the investigation should be left to CAAM.

Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister, added that he would refer the question of any additional assistance to the Health Minister, as the matter had not yet been presented to the Cabinet.

The crash, at the Long Lellang short take-off and landing airport (STOLport), claimed the lives of the pilot and four Health Ministry personnel.
