Perlis PAS reps' support for Abu Bakar as MB remains pending leadership decision

KANGAR: PAS assemblymen in Perlis have no objection to continuing their support for Mentri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah.

Santan assemblyman Muhammad Azmir Azizan said the position would remain unchanged until the leadership made its decision.

"For now, we have no objection to continuing our support. We will carry on as usual.

"However, we will wait for the PAS leadership's decision, as they are scheduled to meet next week," said the former state executive councillor.

The PAS central leadership is scheduled to meet Perlis party leaders to discuss the state's political situation, including whether to maintain its support for Abu Bakar.

PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden said the party's current position is to continue supporting Abu Bakar.

"The central leadership will meet next week. We will discuss the situation in Perlis, including whether to continue supporting the Mentri Besar. For now, our position remains unchanged," he told reporters during the launch of Simpang Empat election machinery on Friday (Oct 23)

Afnan, who is Alor Setar MP, said the meeting would involve PAS leaders from central and state levels.

The political uncertainty follows the suspension of Abu Bakar's Bersatu membership for two party election terms.

The suspension, imposed by Bersatu's disciplinary board, took effect on Oct 13. He was stripped of all party positions and given 14 days to appeal.
