Sarawak polls: PAS wants to contest four seats

KUCHING: Sarawak PAS is targeting to contest four seats in the 13th Sarawak Election, namely Beting Maro, Samariang and Sebuyau, while a fourth seat in the northern region of the state is still under consideration.

Sarawak PAS commissioner Mohammad Arifiriazul Paijo on Saturday (Oct 24) said the fourth seat could be in an area under the Bintulu or Sibuti parliamentary constituency, but the final decision would be subject to approval by the party's top leadership.

He said the selection of the seats took into account the party machinery's preparations, which had begun earlier, as well as PAS' experience contesting in Sarawak since 2001.

Since first contesting in Sarawak in 2001, PAS has yet to win any state seats.

The party currently has more than 8,000 members in Sarawak, including 1,423 registered members in Beting Maro, with eight active branches.

Yesterday, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg announced that the Sarawak State Assembly would be dissolved effective Monday, Oct 26, to pave the way for the 13th Sarawak Election. – Bernama
